Strongcoat Quartz is applied by trowel and can be laid to falls. It has very good durability towards pedestrian and vehicular traffic and has very good resistance towards many of the chemicals commonly found in an industrial environment (consult our Technical Department for further details).
Approximately 2.17m² / kit at 6mm thick.
Store at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C.
Approximately 24 months if stored in unopened containers and under good conditions.
The surface must be clean, dry (less than 75% RH measured by hygrometer) and free from dust, laitance, oils, paints or other forms of contamination. Grit blasting can be used to remove laitance and surface contamination (see the Guide to Surface Preparation for further details).
For treatment of surfaces containing expansion joints consult our Technical Department.
Surfaces must be primed with Strongcoat Primer and blinded with coarse aggregate to provide a mechanical key and allowed to dry prior to application of Strongcoat Quartz (see the Strongcoat Primer Data Sheet for further details).
More than one coat of Strongcoat Primer may be required for highly porous or textured surfaces.
Taking care to ensure that the bottom and sides are thoroughly scraped, transfer the entire contents of the Strongcoat Quartz Hardener into the Resin container and, using a jiffy-type mixer attached to a slow-running electric drill, mix for approximately two minutes.
Once the Strongcoat Quartz Hardener and Resin have been mixed, transfer the entire contents of the Resin container into a Casco or Cretangle-type mixer, taking care to ensure that the bottom and sides are thoroughly scraped.
Start the mixer and transfer to it the entire contents of the Strongcoat Quartz Filler container, taking care to ensure that these are completely dry and lump-free. Continue mixing for approximately two minutes.
Never mix Strongcoat Quartz by hand as this could lead to areas of uncured material.
Once mixing is complete, transfer the Strongcoat Quartz to the primed surface and, using a straight-edged steel trowel, apply it evenly over this. For consolidating, the Strongcoat Quartz should be lightly trowelled with the same trowel.
When applying each kit of Strongcoat Quartz, leave approximately 200mm of the closest working edge unconsolidated as this will help the blending in of the next kit.
Avoid excessive trowelling as this can lead to marks resembling burns on the surface.
Approximately 20 minutes at 20°C.
Never leave the mixed Strongcoat Quartz kit to stand for any length of time prior to application as this will considerably shorten its working time.
Once mixing and application are complete, tools can be cleaned with a suitable solvent.
At 20°C Strongcoat Quartz should be allowed to cure for 24 hours prior to opening it to pedestrian traffic.
At the same temperature, Strongcoat Quartz should be allowed to cure for approximately seven days prior to opening it to vehicular traffic or exposing it to chemical contamination (consult our Technical Department for details of curing times at other temperatures).
Strongcoat Quartz should not be applied at temperatures less than 10°C.
To ensure the surface is fully sealed against liquid spills, it is recommended that Strongcoat Quartz should be sealed with two coats of clear Fildek Sealer. Should a matt finish be required the surface may be sealed with two coats of Strongcoat Matt (for coverage rates please see the relevant Technical Data Sheets).
